Western District
Commercial Robbery - Crofton
On February 20, 2018 at approximately 10:37 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at the 7-11 located at 2046 Davidsonville Road in Crofton. The store clerk stated that the suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. The clerk complied and suspect fled from the store. Several officers including canine responded and canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect. There were no injuries.
Suspect: Black male, medium build, possible beard, wearing a dark jacket, and scarf covering his face.
Northern District
Discharge of Firearm - Brooklyn Park
On February 20, 2018 at approximately 10:06 p.m., officers responded to a discharging of a firearm in the 100 block of 14th Avenue in Brooklyn Park. Officers located witness that stated they heard 1-2 gunshots about 20 min prior. It appeared two bullets struck the outside of a residence in the 100 block of 14 Avenue. During a canvass, officers located a shell casing in the intersection of 14th Avenue and Morgan Road. There were no witness located, no injuries, and no other destruction was located.
Eastern District
Barricade (UPDATE) - Annapolis
On February 19, 2018 at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Red Cedar Road for an overdose/possible suicidal subject. The adult male caller stated that he was home alone and had taken illegal drugs. He began talking irrationally and making statements that indicated he was having hallucinations. As officers and fire department personnel arrived at his residence, the subject advised the 911 call taker that he had a gun and continued making irrational statements and having hallucinations.
Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and were able to confirm that no one else was inside the residence with the subject. After several failed attempts to have the subject exit the residence, the department’s Quick Response Team (QRT) was dispatched for additional resource/assistance. As officers were talking to the subject via cell phone, the subject fired several gun shots inside the residence.
Officers maintained dialogue with the individual throughout the night and into the day on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. At several points during the day, the subject fired rounds at officers outside the residence. Crisis negotiators continued their efforts throughout the day, and, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the individual was safely taken into custody. No officers were injured during this incident.
UPDATE:
The individual in this incident is being identified as 35 year-old Samuel Miller. He is currently being held at a local hospital, and upon his release, he will be served an arrest warrant charging him with five counts of first degree assault, five counts of second degree assault, reckless endangerment, malicious destruction of property over $1,000, discharging a firearm, and other related charges. The victims of the assaults were five officers that were shot at by Mr. Miller throughout the duration of the incident. The destruction of property over $1,000 was a result of damage to departmental equipment as a result of Mr. Miller shooting at officers.
