Fatal Crash - West River
On August 23, 2017 at approximately 20:57 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Muddy Creek Road (MD 468), just west of Chalk Point Road in West River. Investigation showed that a Jeep was traveling eastbound on Muddy Creek Road when a Harley Davidson motorcycle (traveling westbound on Muddy Creek Road) attempted to turn left into Swamp Circle Road directly in front of the Jeep. As a result, the Jeep struck the motorcycle. The rider of the Harley Davidson was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.
The preliminary cause of the crash is the Harley Davidson’s failure to yield on left turn. Alcohol was also likely a contributing factor. Toxicology results are pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.
