Fatal Injury Crash                                                                                                    Hanover

On February 22, 2018 at approximately 2:18 a.m. officers responded to a single vehicle crash on Race Road near Wright Road in Hanover.  At the scene, it was learned that the driver/vehicle was a suspect who had just committed a commercial burglary on Dorsey Run Road in Howard County. When Howard County officers arrived on scene of the burglary, the suspect jumped into his vehicle and fled. Howard County officers pursued the suspect until they lost sight of the vehicle on Race Road.  The vehicle was then located a short time later on Race Road after it crashed.

Preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was southbound on Race Road when it failed to negotiate a right hand curve, crossed the center line, and struck a tree on the opposite side of the roadway. The driver was declared dead at the scene by fire department personnel and taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.

The preliminary cause of the crash was the driver’s failure to remain in a single lane and a contributing factor was his excessive speed.  The Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash and Howard County Police Department is investigating the burglary.
