Fatal Injury Crash Glen Burnie
On May 5, 2019 at approximately 11:39 a.m., officers responded to Ritchie Highway at Americana Circle in Glen Burnie for a crash involving a bicycle. An Acura sedan was traveling northbound on Ritchie Highway approaching Americana Circle facing a steady green signal. A bicyclist entered Ritchie Highway exiting Marley Station Mall while facing a steady red signal. The bicyclist crossed Ritchie Highway towards American Circle, directly into the path of the Acura and was struck by the Acura. The bicyclist was transported by ground to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma in Baltimore with life threatening injuries. He was later pronounced deceased later the same day in the hospital. The driver of the Acura was not injured, and remained on the scene. The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be error on the part of the bicyclist. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and the case will be reviewed by the States Attorney.
