Pedestrian Collision - Odenton
On October 10th, 2015 at approximately 11:06 pm officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on Annapolis Road (Rte-175) at Nevada Avenue in Odenton. Due to the serious nature of the pedestrians injuries crash investigators from the Traffic Safety Section responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1995 BMW operated by a 17 year old female juvenile was traveling east on Annapolis Road in the left lane when the pedestrian ran from the south side of Nevada Avenue into the path of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle attempted to stop, but struck the pedestrian with the front of her vehicle. Friends of the pedestrian reported he was chasing another friend’s dog that had gotten loose, and that he had been drinking.
The pedestrian was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with serious life threatening injuries and his condition is critical but stable.
The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be the pedestrian’s failure to yield right of way to a vehicle when not in a crosswalk. Alcohol is a contributing factor on the part of the pedestrian. Neither alcohol nor speed appears to be a contributing factor on the part of the driver of the 1995 BMW.
Investigation is continuing by the Traffic Safety Section.
