Dwelling Fire- Maryland City

Type of Incident:   Dwelling Fire with a report of children trapped

Description of Structure/Property:   one-story, with a basement; single-family dwelling

Injuries or Deaths:  One firefighter with minor injuries was transported to the burn center at John Hopkins Bayview Hospital. He was treated and released.

Preliminary Cause:  Undetermined, under investigation

Additional Information:   Firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from a one-story, single-family dwelling. Firefighters quickly located and extinguished a basement fire. Searches for trapped occupants were negative. The occupants, who were not home at the time of the fire, arrived home and confirmed that all family members were accounted for. The Red Cross is assisting two adults and five children who are displaced as a result of the fire.

Motor Vehicle Collision- Crownsville

Date:   1/12/19

Time:   1:25 a.m.

Location/Address:   1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, 21032

Type of Incident:   Motor Vehicle Collision with occupants ejected

Injuries or Deaths:   A 38-year-old male (driver) and a 28-year-old male (front seat passenger) were both flown by helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were critical and possibly life-threatening. Paramedics transported a 32-year-old female (rear seat passenger) to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.

Additional Information:   Single vehicle accident in which a car left the roadway and struck a tree, ejecting both front seat occupants. Two Maryland State Police helicopters landed on the grounds of the Crownsville State Hospital to transport the patients to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Boat Fire- Edgewater

Date:   1/11/19

Time:   5:06 p.m.

Location/Address:   Holiday Hill Marina, 3922 Calawasse Road, Edgewater, Maryland 21037

Type of Incident:   Boat Fire

Description of Structure/Property:   42 foot 1987 Silverton Cruiser

Injuries or Deaths:   The 67-year-old male resident of the boat was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center in good condition with a non-related medical emergency. He was not on the boat at the time of the fire.

Additional Information:   Firefighters arrived to find the 42-foot boat attached to the pier fully involved in fire. Initial efforts were to contain the fire to the boat of origin. The fire was extinguished with the use of foam applied by firefighters from the pier and water application by fire boat.

The 67-year-old male occupant of the boat has been displaced and is being assisted by the Red Cross.

Injured Persons- Maryland Park Racetrack

Date:   1/11/19

Time:   3:12 p.m.

Location/Address:   Maryland Park Racetrack, 3600 Laurel Fort Meade Road, Laurel, Maryland 20724

Type of Incident:   Injured persons

Injuries or Deaths:   Paramedics transported 29-year-old and 24-year-old male jockeys to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were serious but not believed life-threatening. A 45-year-old male jockey with serious but not apparently life-threatening injuries was transported to the trauma center at the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center.

Additional Information: The patients were jockeys riding in the 6th race at Laurel Park Racetrack when they were involved in a three-horse spill.
