Distracted/Aggressive Driving & Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Detail

On November 21, 2017, the Anne Arundel County Police Department Traffic Safety Section in coordination with the Maryland Transportation Authority conducted a high intensity distracted/aggressive driving and commercial vehicle enforcement patrol in the Edgewater and Parole areas.  Utilizing marked and unmarked cars, officers made 45 traffic stops issuing 33 citations, 36 warnings and 6 equipment repair orders for various offenses ranging from talking/texting on a cell phone, unsafe lane changes and speeding.  Additionally, three traffic arrests were made for driving on suspended or revoked licenses.

Officers also stopped 25 various types of commercial vehicles and conducted North American Standard truck inspections with certified truck inspectors.  As a result, 16 violations were found resulting in 5 commercial vehicles placed out of service.

This operation is a continuation of enforcement patrols conducted county wide throughout 2017 targeting aggressive & distracted driving as well as unsafe commercial truck traffic.   These patrols are focused during morning rush hours when the behavior is most common and also the most dangerous. Additional enforcement will be conducted throughout the county focused on aggressive/distracted driving and commercial vehicle violations especially during the holidays when traffic levels increase. The next enforcement operation is scheduled for December 15, 2017.

Citizens observing any vehicles operated in a careless or reckless manner at any time are asked to contact the police department by calling 911 of the non-emergency number 410-222-8610.
