Criminal Investigation Division Major Crime Section

On October 23, 2016 the Anne Arundel County and Annapolis police departments began an investigation into an assault of two victims.  The victims, who sustained life-threatening injuries, survived the attack. The following is the initial information released by Annapolis Police with and update from Anne Arundel County Police:

Annapolis Assaults Result in Joint Investigation

On October 23, 2016 at approximately 10:20 p.m. members of the Annapolis Police Department and Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to a disturbance call in 100 block of Hillsmere Drive. When officers arrived and began searching the area, they located an adult male victim behind the shopping center who appeared to be suffering from severe trauma. As the investigation continued, officers located a second adult male victim in the 700 block of Annapolis Neck Road suffering from severe trauma. Both victims were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life threatening injuries.

As officers continued to canvass the area, an Annapolis Police Department Canine Unit located a suspect attempting to hide in a wooded area near Annapolis Neck Road and Hillsmere Drive. Anne Arundel County police officers arrested this suspect who has been preliminarily identified as Fermin Gomez Jimenez, 19, of Annapolis. Gomez Jimenez is currently in Anne Arundel County police custody and awaiting his initial hearing before the District Court Commissioner for charges including attempted murder.

This is an active and fluid investigation involving both the Annapolis Police Department and Anne Arundel County Police Department. The area where these crimes occurred is where the city and county lines meet. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Annapolis Police Department detectives at 410-260-3439. You can also call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-877-7LOCKUP and submit an anonymous tip. If your tip leads to an arrest or indictment you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.


As a result of this ongoing investigation, detectives identified several additional suspects involved in the assault.  Below is a list of the suspects who have been arrested and charged for their involvement in this assault:

Santos Menjivar Cortez, 17 (charged as an adult), Annapolis, Arrested 10/27/16

Manuel Martinez Aguilar, 18, Annapolis, Arrested 10/27/16

Javier Antonio Ordonez-Benitez, 24, of Annapolis, Arrested 2/7/17

Marlon Misael Cruz-Flores, 22, Annapolis, Arrested 2/21/2017

Carlos Antonio Guzman-Aguilera, 23, Lawrenceville, GA, Arrested 2/21/17

Moises Alexis Reyes-Canales, 19, Annapolis, Arrested 2/21/17

Orlando Evelio Gomez-Jimenez, 17 (charged as an adult), Annapolis, Arrested 9/7/17

Cruz-Flores, Guzman-Aguilera and Reyes-Canales were apprehended in Lawrenceville Georgia and have since been extradited back to Maryland where they are currently incarcerated and awaiting trial.

The Anne Arundel County Police have made nine arrests in this brutal attack.  Detectives are still actively looking for an outstanding suspect, Elmer A. Guillen Marroquin, 17, of Annapolis. Marroquin has an active warrant charging him as an adult for his role in this attack.
