County Executive Steve Schuh to Participate in “Toys for Tots” Program in Glen Burnie
Annapolis, MD (December 10, 2015) – Continuing in his effort to encourage volunteerism this Holiday season, Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh will participate in the annual “Toys for Tots” program this Saturday in Glen Burnie.
“The 'Toys for Tots' Program embodies the holiday spirit here in Anne Arundel County” said Schuh. “This program gives our citizens the chance to make every child’s holiday season special.”
On Saturday December 12th at 10:00 am, the County Executive will assist volunteers of the Toys for Tots program. Schuh will help sort gifts and organize packages for needy families in the area.
Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.
Local coordinators also conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots.
“I encourage all citizens of our county to donate their time and efforts to someone less fortunate this holiday season,” said Schuh.
