County Executive Steve Schuh Highlights Expanded Street Sweeping Proposal Initiative Will Ensure Cleaner Communities throughout County

Maryland City, MD (May 31, 2017) – Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh, along with other officials, today highlighted the County’s proposed expanded street sweeping program in a Maryland City neighborhood.

“One of the most effective ways we can improve the quality of life for our citizens is to ensure county government is fulfilling its core functions,” said Schuh. “An effective street sweeping program is good for the environment and instills a sense of pride in our communities.”

The proposed budget includes funds to increase the curb miles of streets swept in the County by nearly 40 percent, totaling more than 7,300 curbs miles of road swept on a yearly basis. The cost of the program is nearly $390,000, with a focus on increasing the sweeping of collector roads across the County.

Earlier this month, Schuh unveiled a budget that makes historic investments in initiatives to improve residents’ quality of life through expanding the County’s system of bike trails, improving parks, and providing greater water access to citizens.

The County Council will finalize the budget on June 15th.
