Councilman Jerry Walker Appointed to New Position on 2016 MACo Board

On Thursday evening, December 10, 2015, Governor Larry Hogan installed the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Board of Directors for 2016. The installation took place during the MACo Winter Conference at the Inaugural Ceremony and Awards Banquet.

Among the new officers is Councilman Jerry Walker, as MACo Secretary for the ensuing year.  Jerry has served on the Board of Directors since December 2013 and on the executive committee since 2014 when he was appointed Treasurer.

MACo is a non-profit and non-partisan organization funded by Maryland’s county governments and organized for the purpose of articulating the positions of local government to the Maryland General Assembly. The Association’s membership consists of all county elected officials and many agency representatives from Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City. MACo’s members determine Association policy and positions on executive and legislative proposals through an elected Board of Directors and a volunteer Legislative Committee. Through MACo’s advocacy, training, education programs, and annual conferences, members are provided with endless opportunities to improve their capacity to serve their residents.

MACo Officers and Board members are elected for a one-year term beginning at the annual winter conference. Jerry said, “I want to thank the local elected officials statewide for entrusting me with this role.  I look forward to continuing to serve our membership and improving the voice of local government in Annapolis.”  Jerry is the only elected official from Anne Arundel County to serve on the sixteen member board.
