Anne Arundel County Wins Financial Reporting Award

Annapolis, MD (June 30, 2015) – County Executive Steve Schuh today announced that Anne Arundel County has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive 2014 annual financial report (CAFR).

“We are blessed to have a financial team in Anne Arundel County that works every day to ensure our county is the best place to live, work and start a business in Maryland,” said Schuh. “The dedication to transparency and detail demonstrated by Controller Julie Mussog and her office is setting an example for the nation.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The award is given by an impartial panel that judges whether a financial report demonstrates a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” that clearly communicates a government entity’s financial story.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the GFOA for our 2014 CAFR,” said Controller Julie Mussog.  “I would like to sincerely thank the entire finance team as this award would not be possible without their hard work and dedication.”

GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement was specifically awarded to Assistant Controller Laureen Toney, the individual who prepared the county's 2014 CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
