Anne Arundel County Launches Healthy Anne Arundel Month

30 Day Program During April will Raise Awareness, Encourage Healthy Choices.

Annapolis, MD (March 31, 2016) —  Anne Arundel County today announced the launch of the 3rd annual Healthy Anne Arundel Month.

“A healthy lifestyle is crucial to helping make our county the best place to live, work and start a business in Maryland,” said County Executive Steve Schuh. “Healthy Anne Arundel Month encourages our citizens to embody that healthy lifestyle by getting active and making good dietary choices.”

Healthy Anne Arundel Month is sponsored by the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition, made up of a number of County agencies, including the Department of Health, three area hospitals (Anne Arundel Medical Center, University of Maryland-Baltimore Washington Medical Center and MedStar Harbor Hospital), community organizations, faith-based organizations, businesses and health providers.

There will be great events promoting health and wellness taking place on Saturdays throughout April including: a Kick-Off event on April 2 at 9:00 a.m. at the Anne Arundel County Farmers’ Market on Riva Road, Annapolis where County Executive Steve Schuh will issue a proclamation and enjoy locally produced fruits and vegetables.

In addition, Homeless Resource Day will take place at Brooklyn Park Middle School on April 9. There will be a Health and Wellness Fair at Corkran Middle School, Glen Burnie (April 16, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.); a Children’s Bike Rodeo at Annapolis Middle School, Annapolis (April 23, 10 a.m. - noon);  and the By the Bay 5K and Family Fun Walk at Downs Park, Pasadena (April 30, 9 a.m. race start).

Organizations and businesses should also consider adopting the Healthy Anne Arundel’s Healthy Meeting and Event Guidelines. You can join the County Department of Health, Department of Recreation and Parks and other workplaces that have already made this their policy.
