Anne Arundel County Encourages “Toys for Tots” Donations
Time is Still Left to Donate
Annapolis, MD (December 16, 2015) – Continuing in his effort to encourage charity this holiday season, Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh is asking citizens to continue to donate gifts to the “Toys for Tots” Program.
“There is still time to give children in need a better Christmas,” said Schuh. “This program gives our citizens the chance to make lasting memories for every Anne Arundel County child.”
This past Saturday, the County Executive assisted volunteers of the "Toys for Tots" program in Glen Burnie. Schuh, along with about a dozen volunteers, helped sort gifts and organize packages for needy families in the area.
The program will be accepting donations through December 21st, and is asking for gifts for children ages 11 to 14.
Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.
Local coordinators also conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots.
