Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities Recognizes Older Americans Month 2022

Annapolis, MD (April 20, 2022) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is pleased to recognize May as Older Americans Month (OAM). The Department of Aging and Disabilities’ mission is to provide services and programs for older adults that allow them to stay healthy and remain independent in their communities. For Older Americans Month, the Department of Aging and Disabilities would like to honor older adults in Anne Arundel County and celebrate their contributions.

Every May, older adults across the nation are recognized for their contributions to their communities and society. While raising families and building careers, older adults continue to give back to their neighborhoods, serving as volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and so much more. Older adults offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community.

The theme for 2022 is “Age My Way,” which focuses on aging in place – how older adults can plan to stay in their homes and live independently in their communities for as long as possible. Older Americans Month is an opportunity for older adults, their families, and the greater community to explore the many ways older adults can remain in and be involved with their communities.

"Older Americans Month is an opportunity for our Department to do our part to honor older adults and their contributions to our county," said Karrisa Kelly, director of the Department of Aging and Disabilities. "The Department of Aging and Disabilities will continue to empower our older adults to age their way by providing programs and services that support healthy, independent, and fulfilling lives.”

We invite you to join us on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kinder Farm Park located at 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road in Millersville, Maryland 21108. The celebration will feature refreshments, live entertainment, and raffle prizes. Representatives from our community partners and organizations will be available to share information about resources available to older adults and their families. The rain date is scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 2022.
