Anne Arundel County Congratulates Lake Shore and Severna Park Elementary Schools for Prestigious National Blue Ribbons
Annapolis, MD (September 30th, 2015) –County Executive Steve Schuh today congratulated the students, teachers, and administrators at Lake Shore and Severna Park Elementary for their National Blue Ribbon recognition.
“The National Blue Ribbon is the gold standard when it comes to achievement in education,” said Schuh. “Our dedicated students, teachers and administrators continue to demonstrate a consistent commitment to excellence, and this national recognition is a testament to their hard work.”
Lake Shore and Severna Park were among six public schools in Maryland to receive the award this week. All six were named Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence in December 2015. Anne Arundel County has now had 15 of its schools earn the National Blue Ribbon distinction.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program is a United States government program created in 1982 to honor school achievement. The awards are based on one of two criteria: the ability of schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds to dramatically improve student performance to high levels on state tests; or schools whose students, regardless of background, rank among their state’s highest performing schools on state assessments.
