Anne Arundel County Celebrates First Day of School

County Executive Schuh Praises School System for Largest Enrollment in History

Annapolis, MD (August 24, 2015) – County Executive Steve Schuh along with Superintendent George Arlotto and other school officials today welcomed Anne Arundel County Public School System students back to school.

“Anne Arundel County is home to terrific schools, dedicated teachers, and committed administrators,” said Schuh. “It is a testament to the fantastic leadership of the School Board and Superintendent Arlotto that our school system this year will have the largest enrollment of students in history.”

This year the Anne Arundel County school system is projected to serve 80,903 students, a 13 percent increase from the 2005-06 school year. Moreover, the system will welcome 20 new principals and 549 new teachers. Sixteen percent of the new teachers are graduates of AACPS.

The historic enrollment numbers come after the announcement several weeks ago that the Anne Arundel County Public School System’s Class of 2015 earned a record $154.5 million in scholarship offers.
