    • "U.S. Media: Truth in a Post-Truth Era" Washington Post Media Critic to Speak at AACC Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm Locations: Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, Arnold, MD 21012. CADE Center for Fine Arts, Room 219 Details:

      Erik Wemple, media critic for The Washington Post, will tackle issues surrounding freedom of the press, contemporary newsgathering and issues of objectivity, along with a question-and-answer session, during his Monday, October 29, 2018 talk at Anne Arundel Community College.
       

      "U.S. Media: Truth in a Post-Truth Era" is 6 to 7 p.m. in Cade Center for the Fine Arts Room 219. The talk is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. Attendees may bring questions regarding fake news, news spin, truth in a post-truth world and more, for this timely discussion about the role of media in America today. 
       

      Wemple has been The Washington Post’s media critic, a position where he has written on all things media, since 2011. Prior to arriving there, Wemple was the top editor at TBD.com, and before that, was the editor of Washington City Paper, an alternative weekly, for eight years. Wemple also worked in other roles at the Washington City Paper and freelanced for various outlets. Some of his work can be seen in “Correspondents’ Association pushes for more White House press briefings,” “Face it, Tucker Carlson: Your anti-diversity segment was racist” or on The Erik Wemple Blog. He is a native of Schenectady, N.Y., and attended Hamilton College before receiving a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
       

      Wemple is the second AACC Martin Luther King Jr. Citizenship and Social Justice lecturer. The series seeks to bring thinkers from a spectrum of disciplines to the college to give insight and foster meaningful discussion into current social issues. It is sponsored by the Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Leadership.

    • Sawmill Workshop Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm Locations: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

      Due to the significant increase in positive rabies cases experienced in Anne Arundel County, Animal Control is doing its part to help protect all Anne Arundel County pets from the deadly rabies virus.

      Due to health and safety concerns for animals and humans alike, the Rabies Clinic will be canceled on any day that the anticipated heat index is above 100 degrees or if other inclement weather that could jeopardize the safety of pets and humans.

      Annapolis, MD (November 1, 2018) – Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh, along with Fire Chief Allan Graves, will announce a $260,000 equipment grant for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

      Media will have the opportunity to see a new EMS equipment purchased with the grant. The County Executive will also unveil the design of the new Jacobsville Fire Station. The new facility is set to begin construction in 2019.
