    • Sewing Workshop Time: 11:00am - 2:00pm Locations: Arnold Senior Activity Center 44 Church Road Arnold, MD 21012 Details: n this two-week workshop, instructor, Pauline Senk, will show you how to make a simple apron with pockets. This is a great project for beginner to advanced sewers. Anyone can be successful and you can get super creative with your choice of colors and pattern with the fabrics. You will need: “It’s So Easy” McCall's Pattern 2319 and (2) yards of cotton fabric. If you are bringing your own supplies, there is no charge.     • Ethics Commission Contingent Meeting (only if called) Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm Locations: 2666 Riva Road Annapolis, MD 21401 Details:

      The Ethics Commission is regularly scheduled to meet on the second Monday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m., in the commission’s office, unless rescheduled by the commission.  The commission will also have a contingent meeting scheduled for the third Monday of each month. The open portion of the meeting is usually quite brief, about 5-15 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to attend the open portion of the meeting.  If a person would like to bring a matter to the commission's attention or otherwise be heard during either the open or closed portion of the meeting, that person must notify the commission at least 24 hours prior to the meeting, providing that person's name and contact information. The commission has the discretion to permit a person to address the commission during a meeting, and may limit the time for the remarks of any speaker. The commission will not respond to questions or comments during a meeting, but upon request, will respond in writing to any speaker within a reasonable time after the meeting.

    • Happy Hats Wig Workshop Time: 9:30am - 11:30am Locations: South County Senior Activity Center 27 Stepneys Lane Edgewater, MD 21037 Details: Happy Hats Maryland is a charity project that provides yarn wigs and character hats to pediatric oncology patients. Kay Alston from Happy Hats will lead this workshop to assemble the wigs from other materials that are made ahead of time. All materials and supplies will be provided. No skills are required. At the end of the workshop, participants will have learned some new crafting skills and had some fun with friends, and Happy Hats will have a few more wigs to donate to pediatric patients in the area. All of the hats that are made are for donation, not to be taken home. Sign up at the front desk.
       
       
    • Carfit Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm Locations: South County Senior Activity Center 27 Stepneys Lane Edgewater, MD 21037 Details: Older drivers can improve their own and others’ safety by ensuring their cars are properly adjusted for them. CarFit is a free educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them. A team of trained technicians work with each participant to ensure they "fit" their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety. The CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes. Participants will receive information and materials on resources to enhance their safety as drivers. Sign up for an appointment at the front desk.

      * This Meeting has been postponed*

      A public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.,
      at Millersville Elementary School Cafeteria to present the proposed design and construction of
      an indoor tennis facility and an outdoor tennis park complex with parking. Construction is
      anticipated to begin in Fall 2020 and be complete by late Spring 2021. Although road closure is
      not anticipated, lane closure is expected.


      DPW officials will present information on the proposed construction, and will also answer
      questions from those in attendance.

    • Sawmill Workshop Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm Locations: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

You will learn defensive driving techniques, proven safety strategies and new laws and rules of the road. There are no tests to pass, you simply sign up and learn. Upon completion of the course, you could receive a multi-year discount on your car insurance. Please bring your driver’s license and AARP membership card with you to class.     • ADC Services Available to Seniors Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm Locations: Arnold Senior Activity Center 44 Church Road Arnold, MD 21012 Details: Arundel Community Development Services, Inc. (ACDS), is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to providing affordable housing and community development services in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Two of their programs are of special interest to our seniors. The Property Rehabilitation Program provides deferred payment/and or low interest loans to Anne Arundel County residents whose income is no greater than 80% of the area median income to make substantial repairs to their homes. Rehabilitation work can include new roofs, installing or replacing heating and violation systems, electrical and plumbing systems, and corrections to heat, safety and other code violations. The Accessibility Modification Program provides deferred payment/and or low interest loans to Anne Arundel County residents who need to make accessibility modification to their home to accommodate a disabled family member Come and learn how these programs can work for you.

      South County Senior Center celebrates 40 years of operation serving Anne Arundel County residents this year. What began as “The Forever Young Club” in Shady Side in the late 1960’s officially became the South County Senior Center in 1979. Located at the Lula Scott Community Center in Shady Side, the center operated under the auspices of the Anne Arundel County Office on Aging. The center eventually outgrew this location and in the fall of 1991, a brand new center opened in our present location, operated by the now Department of Aging. We continue to grow; offering over 90 ongoing classes for Fall 2019, in addition to special programs, Nutrition Program lunches, Department of Aging and Disabilities services, volunteer opportunities, and so much more! So cheers to 40 years, and here’s to many more! As a special gift, the first 300 people to come to the center today will get a FREE commemorative 40th Anniversary t-shirt!  

      Lunch will be served, followed by entertainment by Ray Apollo. Lunch will be catered by Lighthouse Bistro and is sponsored by the Senior Nutrition Program. There is no cost; donations to the Nutrition Program are encouraged. Menu is: Bistro Salad, Choice of Tarragon Salmon with Roasted Asparagus OR Grilled Chicken Breasts with Tomato Vinaigrette, Layered Potato with Gruyere, Caramelized Shallots & Leeks, Sautéed Haricot Vert, Grilled Vegetables, Rolls & Butter, Drinks and Dessert.       Notice Regarding Rabies Clinics

      Rabies clinics at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control resumed beginning Thursday May 14, 2020. Effective Thursday June 11, 2020 Animal Care & Control will be resuming microchip implantations. The procedures have been modified to comply with social distancing, restrictions on gatherings and to ensure the health well being of citizens and Animal Care & Control team members/contractors as best we can. We have been adjusting the clinic each week to find the most effective and efficient ways of providing the services and we will continue to review in an attempt to improve the process. We continue to ask for your patience as we work out the kinks of this new process.

      Animal Care & Control will be pre-scheduling the services by appointment. Go to https://www.aacounty.org/departments/animal-control/rabies-clinic-scheduling/index.html to schedule an appointment. We apologize but the number of citizens/animals serviced will be limited however we believe the number of appointments available is commensurate with the current need.

      A few things to note:
      • Clinic attendees MUST BE Anne Arundel County County Residents and are limited to bringing two (2) pets per appointment.
      • Attendees WILL NOT be allowed inside Animal Care & Control as the building is CLOSED to the public
      • Attendees MUST remain in their vehicle unless/until instructed otherwise by our team member
      • Attendees MUST be wearing a mask over their mouth & nose (even when 6 feet or greater from our team members)
      • All dogs MUST BE ON A 6 FOOT LEASH (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • All cats MUST BE IN A CARRIER (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • Attendees MUST remain at least 6 feet from our team members and MAY NOT linger outside their vehicle.
      • Animal Care & Control WILL NOT be offering these services (for the time being) for animals that require a muzzle or “do best” when handled by their owner for safety reasons. Please contact your regular full service veterinarian for assistance.
      • Attendees will be providing ALL necessary information regarding themselves, their animal and identifying information about their vehicle when the appointment is made.
      • Payment will be made OVER THE PHONE and proof of ID must be provided when we call to provide your appointment time. An AACACC team member will call you to obtain payment and provide your appointment time between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
      • If you are not here on the correct date and at the time of your appointment you will be rescheduled for another date/time
      • License renewals must be mailed in
      • Rabies Vaccination cost is $5.00.
      • Microchip Implantation is $20.00
       

      Low cost rabies vaccinations and microchip implantations are available every Thursday (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Times are dependent on the season and we do have some clinics with special hours.  The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Care & Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.  
        

      Please note clinics are weather permitting and may be canceled for high temperatures, low temperatures, precipitation, air quality or any other factors that may increase risks to citizens or animals at the outdoor clinic. 
        

      Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.
