    • Van Trip - Walmart Supercenter Time: 10:30am - 1:30pm Locations: South County Senior Activity Center 27 Stepneys Lane Edgewater, MD 21037 Details: Transportation will be arranged to take members to the Walmart Supercenter in Severn. Space on the van is limited. Trip is subject to cancellation depending on availability of transportation. Sign up for this trip begins on Tuesday, October 1. A $5.00 fee is due at sign up to reserve your spot on the van. Money will be refunded on the day of the trip to participants who attend. Money will be forfeited for all cancellations and no-shows. Sign up by Monday, October 7.
       
       
    • Sewing Workshop Time: 11:00am - 2:00pm Locations: Arnold Senior Activity Center 44 Church Road Arnold, MD 21012 Details: So what is a thread catcher, you ask? It’s basically a super cute trash can with a weighted pin cushion on top. These hang nicely by your sewing machine and come in very handy when it comes to keeping little pieces of thread, fabric contained. Plus you can quickly access your pins while sewing too. This is the cute and easy sewing project this month! If you are bringing your own supplies, there is no charge. To use the supplies provided by the instructor, the cost is $5.00 per person. Sign up by 8/30/19.
       
       
    • Ethics Commission Meeting(Cancelled) Time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm Locations: 2666 Riva Road Annapolis, MD 21401 Details:

      The Ethics Commission is regularly scheduled to meet on the second Monday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m., in the commission’s office, unless rescheduled by the commission.  The commission will also have a contingent meeting scheduled for the third Monday of each month. The open portion of the meeting is usually quite brief, about 5-15 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to attend the open portion of the meeting.  If a person would like to bring a matter to the commission's attention or otherwise be heard during either the open or closed portion of the meeting, that person must notify the commission at least 24 hours prior to the meeting, providing that person's name and contact information. The commission has the discretion to permit a person to address the commission during a meeting, and may limit the time for the remarks of any speaker. The commission will not respond to questions or comments during a meeting, but upon request, will respond in writing to any speaker within a reasonable time after the meeting.  

       
       
    • Town Hall to Discuss Laurel Racetrack Proposal Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm Locations: Laurel Park racetrack RT 198 & Racetrack Road Laurel, MD 20724 - Ruffian Room Details:

      Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman will host a conversation about plans to rebuild Laurel Racetrack as a regional entertainment destination with all-new facilities and commercial development. The town hall meeting will take place on Monday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the racetrack, in the Ruffian Room. Attendees should enter through the clubhouse entrance.

      “The recently-announced plan to rebuild both Pimlico and Laurel Park has a major impact on Anne Arundel County, particularly the neighborhoods of Maryland City and Russet,” said County Executive Pittman. “I support the concept and I believe that residents and local elected officials should have an opportunity to ask questions and provide input. That’s the purpose of this town hall.”

      Pittman will be joined at the meeting by representatives of the Maryland Jockey Club, who will give a brief presentation of the plans for Laurel Park. County Executive Pittman has also invited members of the County Council and the Anne Arundel County delegation of the General Assembly to attend the meeting.

In conjunction with our regular bingo game, if you bring 3 non-perishable food items, you will be given an EXTRA bingo card. There will be plenty of extra and seasonal bingo prizes added to the prize table. Not only will there be more opportunities to win but more prizes to choose from. Plus we’ll be having apple cider and apple streusel to help get into that fall spirit. 
       
       
    • Happy Hats Maryland Wig Workshop Time: 12:30pm - 3:30pm Locations: Arnold Senior Activity Center 44 Church Road Arnold, MD 21012 Details: Kay Alston from Happy Hats Maryland, returns to make whimsical yarn wigs and hats for pediatric cancer patients in the Mid-Atlantic region. This workshop is for anyone who would like to lend a hand in making the wigs. All materials and supplies are provided and Kay will teach participants, working in pairs, how to assemble and style the hair. It typically takes 2-3 hours to assemble and style each wig. Come and have fun while helping to put a smile on a child’s face! Light refreshments will be served. Workshop is limited to the first 16 people that sign up.
       
       
    • Open Monthly Grief Support Group Time: 2:00pm - 3:00pm Locations: Pasadena Senior Activity Center 4103 Mountain Road Pasadena, MD 21122 Details: The Pasadena Senior Activity Center hosts a monthly grief support group. This is intended for individuals who would like to share and have support amid experiencing difficult loss. It will be held the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Part of the problem: elderly identity theft. The number of victims increases exponentially each year. Our neighborhood bank, BB&T will have Dominic Powell, Assistant Vice President, and Erin O’Leary, Market Leader, on hand to tell us the best ways to deter, detect, and defend ourselves against identity theft.       Notice Regarding Rabies Clinics

      Rabies clinics at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control resumed beginning Thursday May 14, 2020. Effective Thursday June 11, 2020 Animal Care & Control will be resuming microchip implantations. The procedures have been modified to comply with social distancing, restrictions on gatherings and to ensure the health well being of citizens and Animal Care & Control team members/contractors as best we can. We have been adjusting the clinic each week to find the most effective and efficient ways of providing the services and we will continue to review in an attempt to improve the process. We continue to ask for your patience as we work out the kinks of this new process.

      Animal Care & Control will be pre-scheduling the services by appointment. Go to https://www.aacounty.org/departments/animal-control/rabies-clinic-scheduling/index.html to schedule an appointment. We apologize but the number of citizens/animals serviced will be limited however we believe the number of appointments available is commensurate with the current need.

      A few things to note:
      • Clinic attendees MUST BE Anne Arundel County County Residents and are limited to bringing two (2) pets per appointment.
      • Attendees WILL NOT be allowed inside Animal Care & Control as the building is CLOSED to the public
      • Attendees MUST remain in their vehicle unless/until instructed otherwise by our team member
      • Attendees MUST be wearing a mask over their mouth & nose (even when 6 feet or greater from our team members)
      • All dogs MUST BE ON A 6 FOOT LEASH (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • All cats MUST BE IN A CARRIER (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • Attendees MUST remain at least 6 feet from our team members and MAY NOT linger outside their vehicle.
      • Animal Care & Control WILL NOT be offering these services (for the time being) for animals that require a muzzle or “do best” when handled by their owner for safety reasons. Please contact your regular full service veterinarian for assistance.
      • Attendees will be providing ALL necessary information regarding themselves, their animal and identifying information about their vehicle when the appointment is made.
      • Payment will be made OVER THE PHONE and proof of ID must be provided when we call to provide your appointment time. An AACACC team member will call you to obtain payment and provide your appointment time between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
      • If you are not here on the correct date and at the time of your appointment you will be rescheduled for another date/time
      • License renewals must be mailed in
      • Rabies Vaccination cost is $5.00.
      • Microchip Implantation is $20.00
       

      Low cost rabies vaccinations and microchip implantations are available every Thursday (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Times are dependent on the season and we do have some clinics with special hours.  The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Care & Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.  
        

      Please note clinics are weather permitting and may be canceled for high temperatures, low temperatures, precipitation, air quality or any other factors that may increase risks to citizens or animals at the outdoor clinic. 
        

      Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.
