    • Blacksmith Shop Workday Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm Locations: Kinder Farm Park Details: Stop by the Kinder Farm Park Blacksmith Shop and watch the Chesapeake Forge Blacksmith Guild members forging metal, using various tools. Stand on the sidelines and view a trade that is over 100 years old but still very much alive today at Kinder Farm Park. The Blacksmith Shop is open on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
       
       
    • Owl Prowl Time: 7:30pm - 8:30pm Locations: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Come take a walk in Kinder Farm Park to look for owls and other nocturnal animals in the park. Participants will meet at the Park Visitor Center to go over interesting facts about owls and to familiar themselves with the owl calls. Then they will take about an hour walk around the park to popular owl nesting sights with the hope to not just hear owls, but to also see some. Please dress for the weather and a long walk. Villa Ave., Annapolis Details: This one day course costs $15.00 for AARP members (bring card) and $20.00 for non-members. Many insurance companies offer a discount once the course has been completed.       The 2018 Anne Arundel County community needs assessment, Poverty Amidst Plenty VI: On the Road to Progress For All, is a report that provides an overview of the issues in Anne Arundel County that impact the economy and quality of life of residents. This includes: child care, economic opportunity, the environment, health, homelessness, housing, the income gap, mental health, population growth, poverty, social media, substance abuse and transportation.

       

      This report displays the committment between county partners to provide powerful data that every citizen in the county should be familiar with.

    • AARP Safe Driving Course Time: 9:00am - 1:00pm Locations: Pascal Senior Activity Center 125 Dorsey Road Glen Burnie, MD 21061 Details: Tuesday, March 26th from 9:00-1:00.Learn how to maintain proper following distance; the safest way to change lanes and make turns at intersections; the effects of medications on driving & reducing driver distractions such as eating and cell phone usage. Most insurance companies give discounts for class completion. Be sure to check with yours. Cost: $15.00 for AARP members, $20.00 for nonmembers. Fee payable by check ONLY (made out to AARP).     • MD 214 Upgrade Study Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm Locations: Central Middle School 221 Central Ave. E, Edgewater, MD. 21037 Details:

      A public meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm, at the Central Middle School Cafeteria to discuss the update to the ongoing planning study along MD 214 (Central Avenue/ Beverly Avenue/ Grand View Avenue) from MD 468 (Muddy Creek Rd) to the eastern end of MD 214. The purpose is to improve peninsula accessibility and safety for all travelers while minimizing impacts to the environment.
       

      At the meeting, DPW officials will present information on the study and answer questions from those attending.
       
      We anticipate a draft of the Future Conditions Report will be available at https://www.aacounty.org/departments/public-works/engineering/Capital_Projects/tfp---md-214-corridor-planning-study within the next few business days. 
        
      The public meeting will be rescheduled if Central Middle School is closed due to inclement weather.

      Notice Regarding Rabies Clinics

      Rabies clinics at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control resumed beginning Thursday May 14, 2020. Effective Thursday June 11, 2020 Animal Care & Control will be resuming microchip implantations. The procedures have been modified to comply with social distancing, restrictions on gatherings and to ensure the health well being of citizens and Animal Care & Control team members/contractors as best we can. We have been adjusting the clinic each week to find the most effective and efficient ways of providing the services and we will continue to review in an attempt to improve the process. We continue to ask for your patience as we work out the kinks of this new process.

      Animal Care & Control will be pre-scheduling the services by appointment. Go to https://www.aacounty.org/departments/animal-control/rabies-clinic-scheduling/index.html to request an appointment. We apologize but the number of citizens/animals serviced will be limited however we believe the number of appointments available is commensurate with the current need.

      A few things to note:
      • Clinic attendees MUST BE Anne Arundel County County Residents and are limited to bringing two (2) pets per appointment.
      • Attendees WILL NOT be allowed inside Animal Care & Control as the building is CLOSED to the public
      • Attendees MUST remain in their vehicle unless/until instructed otherwise by our team member
      • Attendees MUST be wearing a mask over their mouth & nose (even when 6 feet or greater from our team members)
      • All dogs MUST BE ON A 6 FOOT LEASH (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • All cats MUST BE IN A CARRIER (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • Attendees MUST remain at least 6 feet from our team members and MAY NOT linger outside their vehicle.
      • Animal Care & Control WILL NOT be offering these services (for the time being) for animals that require a muzzle or “do best” when handled by their owner for safety reasons. Please contact your regular full service veterinarian for assistance.
      • Attendees will be providing ALL necessary information regarding themselves, their animal and identifying information about their vehicle when the appointment is made.
      • Payment will be made OVER THE PHONE and proof of ID must be provided when we call to provide your appointment time. An AACACC team member will call you to obtain payment and provide your appointment time between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
      • If you are not here on the correct date and at the time of your appointment you will be rescheduled for another date/time
      • License renewals must be mailed in
      • Rabies Vaccination cost is $5.00.
      • Microchip Implantation is $20.00
       

      Low cost rabies vaccinations and microchip implantations are available on specific Thursdays (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Times are dependent on the season and we do have some clinics with special hours.  The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Care & Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.  
        

      Please note clinics are weather permitting and may be canceled for high temperatures, low temperatures, precipitation, air quality or any other factors that may increase risks to citizens or animals at the outdoor clinic. 
        

      Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.

    • County Executive Pittman to meet with backstretch workers at the Laurel Park Racetrack Time: 10:30am - 11:00am Locations: Laurel Park racetrack RT 198 & Racetrack Road Laurel, MD 20724 Details:

      In response to concerns raised this week by Delegate Nick Mosby (District 40, Baltimore), Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman will meet at Laurel Park racetrack tomorrow with the workers to ask them directly about living and working conditions at the track.
       

      Pittman will begin his tour at 10:30am, starting from the guard house at the stabling entrance on the corner of Whiskey Bottom Road and Racetrack Road. Press is welcome. After hearing from the workers and track management, Pittman will make his remarks to the media.
       

      Location notes:
       

      Media should enter the track through the guard house at Whiskey Bottom Road and Racetrack Road. Notify the guard that you are with the media. Media will gather near the guard house and then travel to several locations on the track along with County Executive Pittman and Laurel Park staff.
