Stand on the sidelines and view a trade that is over 100 years old but still very much alive today at Kinder Farm Park.     • Happy Hats Wig Workshop Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm Locations: South County Senior Activity Center 27 Stepneys Lane Edgewater, MD 21037 Details: Happy Hats Maryland is a charity project that provides yarn wigs and character hats to pediatric oncology patients. Kay Alston from Happy Hats will lead this workshop to assemble the wigs from other materials that are made ahead of time. All materials and supplies will be provided. No skills are required. At the end of the workshop, participants will have learned some new crafting skills and had some fun with friends, and Happy Hats will have a few wigs to donate to pediatric patients in the area. All of the hats that are made are for donation, not to be taken home. Sign up at the front desk.

    • Thinking Inside the Box: Research & Confessions of a Chocoholic Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm Locations: Arnold Senior Activity Center 44 Church Road Arnold, MD 21012 Details: Does chocolate really have health benefits or is it all just wishful thinking? Take a look at the chemistry of chocolate and a summary of the research on health effects of chocolate consumption. You will also learn about varieties of cacao and the steps involved in the processing of chocolate. You are invited to take part in a chocolate taste receptor sensitivity survey, and through it all, you will gain some insight into the mind of a chocoholic! Presented by Carol Veil, Professor Emeritus, Biology, Anne Arundel Community College. Afterwards, enjoy a diverse selection of chocolate treats!

No previous art experience is needed to learn the basic steps of Zentangle, Through the exploration of patterns, taught one step at a time, create non-directional, non-representational works of art. This is a great art form for artists and novices alike! This workshop will be on Monday, February 10th from 1- 3pm. Taught by Julie Allison, Certified Zentangle Teacher.     • Ethics Commission Meeting(Cancelled) Time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm Locations: 2666 Riva Road Annapolis, MD 21401 Details:

      The Ethics Commission is regularly scheduled to meet on the second Monday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m., in the commission’s office, unless rescheduled by the commission.  The commission will also have a contingent meeting scheduled for the third Monday of each month. The open portion of the meeting is usually quite brief, about 5-15 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to attend the open portion of the meeting.  If a person would like to bring a matter to the commission's attention or otherwise be heard during either the open or closed portion of the meeting, that person must notify the commission at least 24 hours prior to the meeting, providing that person's name and contact information. The commission has the discretion to permit a person to address the commission during a meeting, and may limit the time for the remarks of any speaker. The commission will not respond to questions or comments during a meeting, but upon request, will respond in writing to any speaker within a reasonable time after the meeting.

    • MD Court System: Overview Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm Locations: Catherine L. O'Malley Senior Center 1275 Odenton Road Odenton, MD 21113 (410) 222-6227 Details: Learn about the MD Court System. The discussion will include: an overview of the different levels of courts and the types of cases each one handles; what judges do and how they are selected; and what the clerk’s office is and what it does. Also discussed will be various resources the judiciary makes available to the public to help with many types of common causes, such as landlord/tenant issues, guardianship, small claims, and many others. Presented by Scott Poyer, Clerk of the Circuit Court.
       
       
    • Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Screening Time: 10:00am - 11:30am Locations: Brooklyn Park Senior Activity Center 202 Hammonds Lane Brooklyn Park, MD 21225 Details: PAD is a condition in which the arteries supplying blood to the legs become narrow or clogged with plaque, constricting the flow of blood. This can lead to cramping, pain in the feet and legs, cold feet, discolored skin, and if left untreated, ulcerations, gangrene, and amputation. People with diabetes and a history of smoking are most at risk of developing peripheral artery disease. Staff from Podiatry Associates will visit the center to give a brief presentation about the disease and hold screenings afterwards. Held on Tuesday, February 11th from 10:00- 11:30. Screenings are free, non-invasive and take about 3-5 minutes. Please wear shoes and socks that can easily be taken off. Sign up is not required.

    • Beverly Triton Nature Park Public Meeting Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm Locations: Mayo Elementary School Cafeteria 1260 Mayo Ridge Road Edgewater 21037 Details:

      A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., at the Mayo Elementary School Cafeteria to present the proposed Beverly Triton Beach Park redevelopment. The proposed design will refine what was presented during the public meeting held in February 2019.
       
      Department of Recreation and Parks and DPW officials will present information on the proposed park improvements, and will also answer questions from those in attendance.
       
      The public meeting will be rescheduled if the Mayo Elementary School is closed due to inclement weather.

    • Registration for Spring Classes Time: All Day Locations: All Senior Centers Details: Registration for the Spring Cycle of Anne Arundel Community College’s Senior Program non-credit classes begins on Thursday, February 13th. Most classes will start the week of April 6th. A wide variety of fitness, art, computer, and other enrichment courses will be offered. Check on-line or in the office for a complete listing. All classes require a $80 administrative fee payable to AACC by check or major credit card. Those under age 60 pay an additional $40 per course. Some classes may have a supply fee. Please be sure to register early to avoid class cancellations or classes filling up. The most expedient way to register is online at myaacc.aacc.edu. The last day to register at the Center is March 24th.

      Notice Regarding Rabies Clinics

      Rabies clinics at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control resumed beginning Thursday May 14, 2020. Effective Thursday June 11, 2020 Animal Care & Control will be resuming microchip implantations. The procedures have been modified to comply with social distancing, restrictions on gatherings and to ensure the health well being of citizens and Animal Care & Control team members/contractors as best we can. We have been adjusting the clinic each week to find the most effective and efficient ways of providing the services and we will continue to review in an attempt to improve the process. We continue to ask for your patience as we work out the kinks of this new process.

      Animal Care & Control will be pre-scheduling the services by appointment. Go to https://www.aacounty.org/departments/animal-control/rabies-clinic-scheduling/index.html to request an appointment. We apologize but the number of citizens/animals serviced will be limited however we believe the number of appointments available is commensurate with the current need.

      A few things to note:
      • Clinic attendees MUST BE Anne Arundel County County Residents and are limited to bringing two (2) pets per appointment.
      • Attendees WILL NOT be allowed inside Animal Care & Control as the building is CLOSED to the public
      • Attendees MUST remain in their vehicle unless/until instructed otherwise by our team member
      • Attendees MUST be wearing a mask over their mouth & nose (even when 6 feet or greater from our team members)
      • All dogs MUST BE ON A 6 FOOT LEASH (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • All cats MUST BE IN A CARRIER (attendees will be given instructions on how to transfer the animal to our team member while ensuring social distancing)
      • Attendees MUST remain at least 6 feet from our team members and MAY NOT linger outside their vehicle.
      • Animal Care & Control WILL NOT be offering these services (for the time being) for animals that require a muzzle or “do best” when handled by their owner for safety reasons. Please contact your regular full service veterinarian for assistance.
      • Attendees will be providing ALL necessary information regarding themselves, their animal and identifying information about their vehicle when the appointment is made.
      • Payment will be made OVER THE PHONE and proof of ID must be provided when we call to provide your appointment time. An AACACC team member will call you to obtain payment and provide your appointment time between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
      • If you are not here on the correct date and at the time of your appointment you will be rescheduled for another date/time
      • License renewals must be mailed in
      • Rabies Vaccination cost is $5.00.
      • Microchip Implantation is $20.00
       

      Low cost rabies vaccinations and microchip implantations are available on specific Thursdays (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Times are dependent on the season and we do have some clinics with special hours.  The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Care & Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.  
        

      Please note clinics are weather permitting and may be canceled for high temperatures, low temperatures, precipitation, air quality or any other factors that may increase risks to citizens or animals at the outdoor clinic. 
        

      Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.
