Stand on the sidelines and view a trade that is over 100 years old but still very much alive today at Kinder Farm Park. The Blacksmith Shop is open on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
       
       
    • Owl Prowl Time: 6:15p - 7:15p Location: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Come take a walk in Kinder Farm Park to look for owls and other nocturnal animals in the park. Participants will meet at the Park Visitor Center to go over interesting facts about owls and to familiar themselves with the owl calls. Then they will take about an hour walk around the park to popular owl nesting sights with the hope to not just hear owls, but to also see some. Please dress for the weather and a long walk.     • Friends of South County Senior Center Annual Meeting Time: 10:30a - 12:30p Location: South County Senior Activity Center 27 Stepneys Lane Edgewater, MD 21037 Details: The Annual Meeting of the Friends of the South County Senior Center (Friends) will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 10:30 am. Friends is a 501c3 non-profit founded primarily to manage and disburse funds raised by the organization for the benefit of the membership of the South County Senior Center. At the Annual Meeting we will elect the seven members of the Board of Directors of Friends to a one year term. The seven incumbent members of the Board of the Friends have agreed to stand as candidates for an additional one year term. Those members include: Rose Brown, Barbara Cantor, Susann Felton, Delilah Holmes, David Moede, Paul Sherbert and Frank Zampardi. Any parties interested in serving on the Board are invited to attend the regularly scheduled Board meeting on March 5 at 10:30 a.m. Minimal qualifications for Board membership include: must be a member of the Friends of the South County Senior Center (applications are available at the Front Desk) and must volunteer at least 5 hours of service to the Center per year. Copies of the Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation are available upon your request, in writing, at the front desk. Please leave your e-mail address. Self nominations to the Board should include your name and contact information, a short statement of your qualifications and short statement of your interest. This information will be made available to the Friends membership prior to the election on March 5. 2019. To be considered, self nominations must be received no later than February 22, 2019 at the front desk. The final ballot shall include all qualified self nominations as well as the above named incumbents. A list of all active Friends members with verified volunteer hours is posted on the Center Bulletin Board. To be eligible to vote you must be on that list prior to the Annual Meeting. If you would like to become a member of Friends, please sign up at the Front Desk. There is no cost to join.

    • Sawmill Workshop Time: 9:00a - 12:00p Location: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

    • Weekly Rabies & Microchip Clinic Time: 12:00p - 3:00p Location: 411 Maxwell Frye Road Millersville, MD 21108 Details:

      Low cost rabies vaccinations and microchip implantations are available every Thursday (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Times are dependent on the season and we do have some clinics with special hours.  The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Care & Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.  
        

      Please note clinics are weather permitting and may be canceled for high temperatures, low temperatures, precipitation, air quality or any other factors that may increase risks to citizens or animals at the outdoor clinic. 
        

      Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.

      The Ethics Commission is regularly scheduled to meet on the second Monday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m., in the commission’s office, unless rescheduled by the commission.  The commission will also have a contingent meeting scheduled for the third Monday of each month. The open portion of the meeting is usually quite brief, about 5-15 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to attend the open portion of the meeting.  If a person would like to bring a matter to the commission's attention or otherwise be heard during either the open or closed portion of the meeting, that person must notify the commission at least 24 hours prior to the meeting, providing that person's name and contact information.       The Ethics Commission is regularly scheduled to meet on the second Monday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m., in the commission’s office, unless rescheduled by the commission.  The commission will also have a contingent meeting scheduled for the third Monday of each month. The open portion of the meeting is usually quite brief, about 5-15 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to attend the open portion of the meeting.  If a person would like to bring a matter to the commission's attention or otherwise be heard during either the open or closed portion of the meeting, that person must notify the commission at least 24 hours prior to the meeting, providing that person's name and contact information.       Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

      Low cost rabies vaccinations and microchip implantations are available every Thursday (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Care & Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.

      Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

      A public meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm, at the Central Middle School Cafeteria to discuss the update to the ongoing planning study along MD 214 (Central Avenue/ Beverly Avenue/ Grand View Avenue) from MD 468 (Muddy Creek Rd) to the eastern end of MD 214. The purpose is to improve peninsula accessibility and safety for all travelers while minimizing impacts to the environment.
       

      At the meeting, DPW officials will present information on the study and answer questions from those attending.
       
      We anticipate a draft of the Future Conditions Report will be available at https://www.aacounty.org/departments/public-works/engineering/Capital_Projects/tfp---md-214-corridor-planning-study within the next few business days.

    • Weekly Rabies & Microchip Clinic Time: 12:00p - 3:00p Location: 411 Maxwell Frye Road Millersville, MD 21108 Details:

      Low cost rabies vaccinations and microchip implantations are available every Thursday (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Times are dependent on the season and we do have some clinics with special hours.  The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Care & Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.  
        

      Please note clinics are weather permitting and may be canceled for high temperatures, low temperatures, precipitation, air quality or any other factors that may increase risks to citizens or animals at the outdoor clinic. 
        

      Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.

      In response to concerns raised this week by Delegate Nick Mosby (District 40, Baltimore), Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman will meet at Laurel Park racetrack tomorrow with the workers to ask them directly about living and working conditions at the track.
       

      Pittman will begin his tour at 10:30am, starting from the guard house at the stabling entrance on the corner of Whiskey Bottom Road and Racetrack Road. Press is welcome. After hearing from the workers and track management, Pittman will make his remarks to the media.
       

      Location notes:
       

      Media should enter the track through the guard house at Whiskey Bottom Road and Racetrack Road. Notify the guard that you are with the media. Media will gather near the guard house and then travel to several locations on the track along with County Executive Pittman and Laurel Park staff.
