    • Sawmill Workshop Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm Locations: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

      The Plan2040 Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) provides input to the Office of Planning and Zoning in the development of Plan2040. The Commission consists of a Chair, citizens from each of the seven County Council districts, as well as representatives from the environment, building, education, and planning sectors.

      Meetings are on the first and third Wednesday of each month, tentatively set for 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the Chesapeake Room of the Heritage Office Complex (2664 Riva Road, Annapolis). Meetings are open to the public.

      Annapolis, MD (August 17, 2018) –Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh will sign bill 76-16, which establishes a property tax credit for retired veterans in the County.

    • Lifeline 100 Century Ride and Make Health Happen Community Health Fair Time: All Day Locations: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      The Fifth Annual Anne Arundel County Lifeline 100 Century Ride is co-sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks and Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.   All event proceeds will be used to support the following non-profit organizations: 

      Each ride will be show and go, starting schedules will be posted soon!  Please keep in mind, this is a ride and not a race!  The routes include some paved trail segments with posted speed limits. Come out and enjoy the day.

      The Family Fun Ride is for children ages 10 and under and their parents/guardians.  This
      event is free.  The course is on the paved trails at Kinder Farm Park.

      The Ethics Commission is regularly scheduled to meet on the second Monday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m., in the commission’s office, unless rescheduled by the commission.  The commission will also have a contingent meeting scheduled for the third Monday of each month. The open portion of the meeting is usually quite brief, about 5-15 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to attend the open portion of the meeting.  If a person would like to bring a matter to the commission's attention or otherwise be heard during either the open or closed portion of the meeting, that person must notify the commission at least 24 hours prior to the meeting, providing that person's name and contact information. The commission has the discretion to permit a person to address the commission during a meeting, and may limit the time for the remarks of any speaker. The commission will not respond to questions or comments during a meeting, but upon request, will respond in writing to any speaker within a reasonable time after the meeting.

      New Roadway Demonstrates Progress in West County

      Annapolis, MD (October 9, 2018) –Keeping with his commitment to smart growth in Anne Arundel County, County Executive Steve Schuh will help cut the ribbon on the new Odenton Town Center Boulevard.
       

      Planning for the new road began in 2010 when Anne Arundel County approved a private-public partnership. This new road creates a biker/hiker trail, roadway and sidewalk from MD Route 175 though the MD Route 32 underpass to Town Center Boulevard in Seven Oaks.
       

      Halle Development agreed to fund and construct the road project with the county providing impact fee credits to support construction.

      Ken Gonzales-Day, a Los Angeles-based art professor and Guggenheim Fellow, will talk about his work and experience as an artist. His images center on Native Americans, Asians and Latinos and expose cultural bias and the inadequacy of current historical narratives. Gonzales-Day is widely recognized for the “Erased Lynching” series and others, including an exhibit he is currently co-headlining at the National Portrait Gallery, "Unseen: Our Past in a New Light."

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill.       Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

    • County Executive Steve Schuh to Sign Crisis Response Mental Health Funding Bill Time: 1:30pm - 2:00pm Locations: Station 31 5100 Ritchie Hwy, Brooklyn, MD 21225 Details:

      Annapolis, MD (October 23, 2018) –Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh will sign into law a funding proposal to expand mental health services.

      The $470,000 annual effort would fund two new Mental Health Agency mobile Crisis Response Teams.  The teams are designed to respond primarily to calls from police. County staff is then dispatched to assist in stabilizing the individual and connect them to the most appropriate services. During 2017, the teams were dispatched 1,912 times. The agency serves the entire county on a 24/7/365 basis.

      One of the new Crisis Response Teams will help support the County’s Safe Stations Program, where any resident who is the victim of a heroin/opioid addiction can go to any Anne Arundel County or Annapolis City Fire Station and get connected to services. The second team will be assigned to the Anne Arundel County Public School system, and will help provide needed emergency mental services to the students.

      Erik Wemple, media critic for The Washington Post, will tackle issues surrounding freedom of the press, contemporary newsgathering and issues of objectivity, along with a question-and-answer session, during his Monday, October 29, 2018 talk at Anne Arundel Community College.
       

      "U.S. Media: Truth in a Post-Truth Era" is 6 to 7 p.m. in Cade Center for the Fine Arts Room 219. The talk is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. Attendees may bring questions regarding fake news, news spin, truth in a post-truth world and more, for this timely discussion about the role of media in America today. 
       

      Wemple has been The Washington Post’s media critic, a position where he has written on all things media, since 2011. Prior to arriving there, Wemple was the top editor at TBD.com, and before that, was the editor of Washington City Paper, an alternative weekly, for eight years. Wemple also worked in other roles at the Washington City Paper and freelanced for various outlets. Some of his work can be seen in “Correspondents’ Association pushes for more White House press briefings,” “Face it, Tucker Carlson: Your anti-diversity segment was racist” or on The Erik Wemple Blog. He is a native of Schenectady, N.Y., and attended Hamilton College before receiving a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
       

      Wemple is the second AACC Martin Luther King Jr. Citizenship and Social Justice lecturer. The series seeks to bring thinkers from a spectrum of disciplines to the college to give insight and foster meaningful discussion into current social issues. It is sponsored by the Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Leadership.

    • Sawmill Workshop Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm Locations: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.
