Cheers to 40 Years!
South County Senior Center celebrates 40 years of operation serving Anne Arundel County residents this year. What began as “The Forever Young Club” in Shady Side in the late 1960’s officially became the South County Senior Center in 1979. Located at the Lula Scott Community Center in Shady Side, the center operated under the auspices of the Anne Arundel County Office on Aging. The center eventually outgrew this location and in the fall of 1991, a brand new center opened in our present location, operated by the now Department of Aging. We continue to grow; offering over 90 ongoing classes for Fall 2019, in addition to special programs, Nutrition Program lunches, Department of Aging and Disabilities services, volunteer opportunities, and so much more! So cheers to 40 years, and here’s to many more! As a special gift, the first 300 people to come to the center today will get a FREE commemorative 40th Anniversary t-shirt!
Lunch will be served, followed by entertainment by Ray Apollo. Lunch will be catered by Lighthouse Bistro and is sponsored by the Senior Nutrition Program. There is no cost; donations to the Nutrition Program are encouraged. Menu is: Bistro Salad, Choice of Tarragon Salmon with Roasted Asparagus OR Grilled Chicken Breasts with Tomato Vinaigrette, Layered Potato with Gruyere, Caramelized Shallots & Leeks, Sautéed Haricot Vert, Grilled Vegetables, Rolls & Butter, Drinks and Dessert. Sign up at the front desk by Wednesday, October 16.
