Diane M. Rey portrays pioneering newspaper publisher Anne Catharine Green of Colonial Annapolis. Mrs. Green took over as printer to the Maryland province upon the death of her husband, Jonas Green, in 1767. She published the Maryland Gazette in the run-up to the American Revolution. Mrs. Green printed the laws, proceedings and paper money for the Maryland General Assembly after securing from that body the same contract they had given her husband, making her an early example of “equal pay for equal work.” Ms. Rey is a freelance writer and reporter whose credits include a weekly community news column in The Capital newspaper.
