Join Baltimore historian and educator Wayne R. Schaumburg on Tuesday, February 19 at 10am as we celebrate the 115th anniversary of The Great Baltimore Fire through a program entitled “A Hot Time In the Old Town!” Beginning Sunday morning, February 7th, 1904, the blaze lasted over 30 hours and destroyed almost 80% of the central business district. By the time it was brought under control, the fire had burned 140 acres, 1,546 buildings that closed over 2,500 companies. Over 30,000 Baltimoreans were put out of work and the damage estimates ranged from 110 to 125 million dollars. The illustrated program will look at the suspected cause of the fire, the path of the fire itself, the damage and the rebuilding of downtown Baltimore within 3 years. Space is limited. Please register at the front desk.
