If you live in a water access community, I HIGHLY encourage you to register for emergency alerts, specifically related to the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works.
‼️ EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY ‼️
Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) will be pushed out through emergency notification to residents in the immediately affected area.
You MUST VOLUNTARILY REGISTER to receive these notifications.
These events are VERY rare in our county, but unfortunately one community has experienced an SSO twice in 2 years.
I want to thank the Department of Public Works for attending the Manhattan Beach Community HOA meeting last night, explaining the sewer system, but more importantly answering some tough questions.
This dialogue led to a comment from a resident that I had also suggested as an improvement in communication when these events happen. I had a brief discussion with department officials after the meeting, reiterating this idea and DPW definitely listened!
Residents need to voluntarily register for this notification at: https://www.aacounty.org/emergency-management/emergency-notifications
Be sure to subscribe to DPW emergency messages by clicking the "Register Here" button, providing your contact information (your address lets them know if you’re close to an SSO event), and then selecting to receive AACoDPW-General alerts (this is a really important step). Once registered you will receive DPW alerts relevant to your location - NOW including SSO events.
