Brief Project Description

The South Shore Trail primarily utilizes the abandoned road bed of the WB& A Railroad between Annapolis and Odenton. The trail will connect with the Colonial Annapolis Maritime Trail on the east end and the WB & A Trail on the west. The trail will be a component of the East Coast Greenway and the American Discovery Trail. 
The South Shore Trail's multi-phase construction will consist of the following:
  • Phase I: Waterbury Road to MD Route 3 (1.97 mile)
  • Phase II: MD Route 3 to Odenton (2.07 mile)
  • Phase III: Bestgate Road to Eisenhower Golf Course (2.59 mile)
  • Phase IV: Eisenhower Golf Course to Waterbury Road (3.55 mile)
  • Phase V: Bestgate Road to City of Annapolis (3.37 mile)

02/2020 - Phase II: 60% Design presented to public
05/2019 - Phase I: Opened and operational off Millersville Road near Route 3 to Waterbury Road in Millersville
01/2013 - Phase Va: Opened and operational between Westfield Shopping and AAMC (Anne Arundel Medical Center)

Status of Other Phases

Phase III and IV Feasibility Study is complete.
Phase II - Design continues
MD 3 Crossing - Feasibility Study is complete. Design and construction is contingent upon future funding. Staff resources and funding are currently focused on design and construction of Phase II, and right of way studies on Phases III and IV.
