Child Care for Essential Persons

Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks has 9 FREE Essential Personnel School Age (EPSA) child care sites now available.

State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Salmon announced on March 26th that all child care providers were ordered to be closed by the end of the day Friday, March 27th except those serving essential personnel. She also announced a free child care program for essential personnel only, as designated in Governor Hogan's executive order of March 25, 2020.

Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks is currently providing nine Essential Personnel School Age (EPSA) sites to offer childcare services for employees working during the COVID-19 pandemic through at least the end of the school year (June 18, 2020). See below for site locations.
Important Updates from MSDE effective May 18, 2020:
  • Beginning May 18, 2020, children of families that are NOT considered essential workers under Governor Hogan's Executive Order of 03/25/20 may now attend EPSA child care but must be charged a weekly fee. Therefore, please be aware:

If your business does not fall into the "essential workers" category as listed in the 03/25/20 Executive Order but has since reopened based on new guidance from the State, your family will be charged $195/week per child. Our Office of Information Technology is working to build the ability to bill from our EPSA registration system. We anticipate this to be ready on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

  • Beginning June 8, 2020, MSDE will no longer be providing funding for child care for essential workers. Click here to view letter from MSDE. Therefore, ALL families registered beginning June 8, 2020 will be charged $195/week per child for care.
All locations will be open Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for children 4 to 12 years old. Through our partnership with AACPS through June 18, 2020, we are able to provide 3 meals/day & staff on site will help to facilitate e-learning to assist your child with their schoolwork. Children attending EPSA child care will be cared for with ratios of a minimum of 1 staff member to 9 children. Parents are strongly urged to keep children at home as the first and best option to protect them from the COVID-19 virus. Please be aware that EPSA site activities will be limited based upon the location/space available. In general, activities will include: arts and crafts, games, and outdoor play (weather/space permitting).
If you are interested in a space in one of our EPSA programs, please email us at [email protected] with your child(ren)’s name, parent’s name, desired location, and a contact phone number.
