Friday, May 29, 2020 – Based on Governor Hogan’s Stage One announcement on May, 27, 2020 with support from County Executive, Steuart Pittman please see the the Department of Recreation and Parks updates on the opening of facilities and summer camps below:

Thank you for your cooperation.


  • The following will remain closed at all Regional Parks (Quiet Waters, Downs, Fort Smallwood, Kinder Farm, Lake Waterford, B&A Trail and Jug Bay), and Recreation & Parks Community Parks,
    • Visitor centers
    • Playgrounds
    • Restrooms 
  • Arundel Olympic Swim Center and North Arundel Aquatic Center will be closed until further notice.
  • North County and South County Recreation Centers will be closed until further notice.
  • Child Care programs for Essential Employees will continue to operate as scheduled, click here for more information.
  • ALL permitted/organized activities in the Community Park facilities and Board of Education Facilities, remain cancelled until June 1, 2020.  All artificial turf and Bermuda fields remain closed.
  • Recreation & Parks spring sports (youth spring field hockey, boys/girls lacrosse, youth/adult spring basketball, youth spring soccer, adult soccer, adult county co-ed softball) have been cancelled.  All other spring sports which utilize Anne Arundel County Recreation & Park/BOE fields/facilities are suspended until further notice.

OPENING AS OF 5:00 pm FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2020

  • Dog Parks
  • Dog Beaches
  • Park Beaches
  • Pavilions (usual reservation and permitting is required)  NO more than 10 people or fewer permitted

Parks Cancellations and Closures:

COVID-19 Update for Regional Parks:
Regional Parks (Quiet Waters, Downs, Fort Smallwood, Kinder Farm, Lake Waterford, B&A Trail and Jug Bay) will remain open. However, the following are still closed:
  • Visitor centers
  • Playgrounds
  • Restrooms

Fort Smallwood Park -  Recreational boating will now be permitted starting May 6, 2020 as long as it can be done safely. Boaters must follow current social distancing requirements.  The CDC recommended social distancing guidelines should be practiced at all times by the public while using the boat ramp facility. Please stay at least 6' apart while launching your vessel and while on the ramp's docks. All park and boat ramp rules and regulations are enforced. The boat ramp is open for launching from 5:30 AM until one hour prior to the posted park closing time. Please be prepared for intermittent boat ramp closures in anticipation of increased ramp usage.
