Stormwater Management Property Tax Credit Program
Residential and commercial property owners can receive a credit on their property taxes by installing and maintaining stormwater treatment practices. It provides for a reduction in County property taxes for qualified stormwater improvements. The application must be filed within 45 days of completion of the qualifying improvements. The tax credit shall be 10% of the cost of materials and installation for making qualified improvements, this credit not to exceed a total of $10,000 over the five-year life of the credit.
Stormwater treatment practices qualified for the tax credit are recognized by the Department of Public Works for the permanent reduction and change of drainage patterns of stormwater runoff from structures and other impervious surfaces, and include living roofs, sidewalk infiltration planters, permeable pavers, bioretention installations, living shorelines, cisterns and other permanent diversion and infiltration methods.
See the list of qualified devices below. It should be noted that stormwater treatment practices installed as a requirement in any State or local law do not qualify for the Stormwater Management Property Tax Credit Program.
Tax credit applications are submitted to the Office of Finance and reviewed by Department of Public Works staff. The property owner will receive written notification upon approval or denial of a completed application. If approved, the credit shall be effective beginning in the taxable year following submittal. Depending on the date of submittal, a property owner will either receive an adjusted property tax bill or a refund check via US Mail.
