Page Background

The Research Staff interprets demographic data into information portraying a detailed, meaningful picture that helps planners and county officials better understand our communities, county, or region. Demographic information is used in defining planning issues and making sound public decisions to serve the needs of a diverse community.
Staff develop forecasts in coordination with the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC), and Maryland Department of Planning (MDP). The  forecasts are used to develop transportation plans and improve air quality in the Baltimore-Washington region.
The Research Staff also works closely with the U.S. Bureau of the Census and Maryland Department of Planning to achieve local address update and statistical areas delineation programs to ensure an accurate census enumeration.
  • Demographic Summary
The Census Quickfacts allows users to obtain the latest American Community Survey (ACS) data for Anne Arundel County, Maryland and other areas of the U.S. Users need to be careful about drawing conclusions about differences between estimates; check the margin of errors (MOE) associated with estimates to determine if they are statistically different.
  • Tracking Subdivisions and Permits
Staff maintains databases for monitoring subdivision and building permit activities. This information is used in developing cooperative forecasts, annual population and housing estimates, and analysis of development impacts on schools and transportation to support the County’s current and long range planning.
  • Boundary and Thematic Maps
Many boundary maps for census geographies are available at the Map Room of the Office of Planning and Zoning.
