Anne Arundel County Encourages Residents to Use Maryland MyCoast to Report Coastal Flooding and Damage

MyCoast: Maryland is an app used to collect and analyze data and images of flooding caused by rain, storms, and other coastal events like high tides. This app allows any community member to document flooding or storm damage by simply taking a picture, selecting the type of flooding, and submitting a report all through the convenient app. The information and images collected through this program helps us visualize the impacts of flooding events and enhance awareness among decision-makers and residents of Anne Arundel County. This allows us to better understand the situation and encourage action in a timely manner to reduce the loss of life and property.

The app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play on Android phones. Download the app to get started.

Once the app is downloaded, open the app and select sign up!

To register, enter your full name, email, password, and home State.Once all of the information is entered correctly, click register.

To submit a report click +Add Report. Then select the type of report that you would like to submit. The options are Nuisance Tidal Flooding which captures the location and extent of flooding, Storm Reporter which captures the flood impacts, and Coastal Storm Damage which captures the damage caused by flooding.

You can choose to upload images from your camera roll or take a live picture to upload. When you upload a photo the app uses data from the photo to determine your location, date, and time when the photo was taken, the tool then pulls the corresponding tidal and weather information.

Once you have submitted the report you should see a confirmation flash across that screen notifying you that your report has been submitted. You should also receive an email confirmation of the submitted report with a link to review weather and tidal data collected for your area at the time the picture was taken.
