Nuclear Facility Incident
Nuclear power plants convert water to steam, which powers generators to produce electricity. Although the construction and operation of these facilities is closely monitored and regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, incidents are possible. An incident could result in dangerous levels of radiation that could affect the health and safety of the public living near the nuclear power plant.
Citizens in Anne Arundel County may live within 50-miles of Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant and/or Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station. See our extended Emergency Planning Guide for Nuclear Facility Incidents, overview of Planning for Nuclear Facility Incidents, or Citizen’s Guide to Emergencies for additional information about the impacts of living within 50 miles of a Nuclear Power Plant.
