Social Services Board of Directors

The Social Services Board of Directors advises the Department of Social Services of issues in Anne Arundel County.

The Anne Arundel County Social Services Board of Directors (the “Board”) is comprised of local residents who are personally interested in the welfare of the County’s vulnerable populations. The Board supports the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services which:

  • Promotes family stability through parenting supports, in-home aide services, housing referrals and emergency assistance;
  • Ensures safety of vulnerable children and adults;
  • Supports the health and well-being of County residents by facilitating access to Medicaid for eligible recipients; and
  • Develops and implements programs that strengthen families and leads to greater self-sufficiency.

Pursuant to Section 3-503 of the Human Services Article of the Maryland Code Annotated, some of the duties of the Board include advising the local director as to the local application of State policies or procedures; to be well informed on local departmental activities; to communicate to the residents of the County, broad and comprehensive information as to the objectives, policies, programs, and problems of local social services and public assistance administration; to review the periodic evaluation of the local department and consult with the local director as to the proper implementation of the recommendations; to review and make recommendations regarding the annual estimate of funds needed for social services and public assistance in the county; to consult with the local director regarding any new service that might be instituted to meet an unmet need in the County; to serve as an advocate for social services and public assistance programs; to work to identify private, State, and federal grant sources for social services and public assistance programs; and to evaluate the local director and make recommendations based on the evaluation.

Vision

The vision of the Board is to see that every citizen of Anne Arundel County is adequately nourished, has access to affordable housing, has access to medical health services, has the job skills needed to obtain employment, and is a part of a well-functioning family unit.

Mission

The mission of the Board is to act as an advisor to the local director of the Department of Social Services and make recommendations, to serve as an advocate and communicate to residents of the County the local departments activities and programs, and to work to identify sources of additional funding to support unmet needs of the local department.

The nine member board meets on the third Tuesday of the month beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Heritage Office Complex - Building 2666, 2666 Riva Road, third Floor, Annapolis, Maryland 21401
