Overview

Clients voluntarily consent to have a Representative Payee manage their income, handle their banking needs, and pay their monthly bills. Clients must be able to participate in directing the use of their funds and are actively engaged in spending decisions.  There is no cost for this service.
  
These adults are assigned a volunteer Representative Payee who has completed a thorough application process including a state and FBI background check.  Training is provided and qualified volunteers are matched with a client and commit to visiting them on a monthly basis.  A Representative Payee also submits monthly reports to an Advisory Board, who oversees the management of program accounting practices. 

How to

New referrals are made by contacting a Maryland Access Point (MAP) representative at 410-222-4257.  Referrals are also accepted by internal case workers/planners at the Department of Aging and Disabilities, Department of Social Services, and other county agencies servicing disabled and vulnerable adults in need of financial management service.

Volunteer

The Representative Payee Program seeks volunteers to provided financial management services to physically and/or mentally impaired Anne Arundel County adult residents who are not fully capable of managing their limited income retirement/social security checks.  These volunteers assist clients who consent to have a Representative Payee manage their income, handle their banking needs, and pay their monthly bills. Clients must be able to participate in directing the use of their funds and are actively engaged in spending decisions.  
 
Volunteer Representative Payees complete a thorough application process including a state and FBI background check.  Training is provided and qualified volunteers are matched with a client and commit to visiting them on a monthly basis.  Monthly reports are submitted to an Advisory Board, who oversees the management of program accounting practices. Volunteers are reimbursed for their travel expenses.
