Shooting/Accidental Discharge Hanover
On July 12, 2017 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to Mercy Hospital in Baltimore to assist Baltimore City with an accidental shooting that occurred in Anne Arundel County. Investigation revealed that at approximately 10:30 p.m., the thirty five year-old victim was alone in his hotel room at the Ramada located at 7253 Parkway Drive in Hanover. While he was inside his room he removed his holstered Ruger .380 handgun from his suitcase. As he was removing the weapon from the holster the firearm discharged, striking the victim in his finger. The victim, who is from Pennsylvania and in the area on business, put “local hospital” in his GPS, which directed him to Mercy Hospital.
Officers responded to the Ramada and confirmed there were no additional victims. The room did sustain minor damage as a result of the discharge. The handgun was recovered from the victim’s car. The victim is cooperative and the case is still being investigated.
CDS Offense/Search Warrant Laurel
On July 11, 2017 at approximately 6:00 a.m., detectives from Western District’s Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) and Western District’s Tactical Patrol Unit (TPU) with the assistance of the Special Operations Section executed a narcotics search warrant at 3361Sudlersville S in Laurel. As a result, PCP, Suboxone, Marijuana, handgun, U.S. currency, and CDS paraphernalia for distribution were recovered.
As a result of this operation, detectives seized the following:
- 4.88 grams of Suboxone strips (approx. street value $250.00)
- 4 oz. of PCP (approx. street value $2400.00)
- 358.75 grams of marijuana (approx. street value $7175.00)
- Glock 23 semi-automatic handgun
- $60,195.00 US Currency
- Several cell phones

Serious Motor Vehicle Crash Odenton
On July 11, 2017 at approximately 9:16 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Annapolis Road in the area of Odenton Plaza in Odenton. Investigation showed that a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling southbound on Annapolis Road and attempted to turn left into the Dairy Queen parking lot at 1140 Annapolis Road when it was struck by a custom made motorcycle traveling northbound on Annapolis Road.
The motorcycle operator was ejected and sustained suspected serious injury. He was transported by EMS to Maryland Shock Trauma. The driver of the Volkswagen was uninjured. Impairment by drugs or alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in this crash. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and any charges would be pending review by the State’s Attorney.
