    • The 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Time: 8:00a - 10:00a Location: Anne Arundel Community College Jenkins Gymnasium 101 College Parkway in Arnold, MD 21012 Details:

      In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Anne Arundel Community College will hold the 37th annual event. Gail C. Christopher, a nationally recognized leader in health policy, will deliver the keynote address at this year’s breakfast with the theme "Keep on Pushing.” Doors open and food is available at 7:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 8 a.m. Participants are asked to bring canned goods to be donated to a local food drive.

    • Ethics Commission Contingent Meeting (only if called) Time: 4:00p - 5:00p Location: 2666 Riva Road Annapolis, MD 21401 Details:

      The Ethics Commission is regularly scheduled to meet on the second Monday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m., in the commission’s office, unless rescheduled by the commission.  The commission will also have a contingent meeting scheduled for the third Monday of each month. The open portion of the meeting is usually quite brief, about 5-15 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to attend the open portion of the meeting.  If a person would like to bring a matter to the commission's attention or otherwise be heard during either the open or closed portion of the meeting, that person must notify the commission at least 24 hours prior to the meeting, providing that person's name and contact information. The commission has the discretion to permit a person to address the commission during a meeting, and may limit the time for the remarks of any speaker. The commission will not respond to questions or comments during a meeting, but upon request, will respond in writing to any speaker within a reasonable time after the meeting.

      Refresh your driving skills with AARP’s driver safety course. You will learn defensive driving techniques, proven safety strategies and new laws and rules of the road.     • King’s Dream: Then and Now Time: 6:00p - 9:00p Location: Anne Arundel Community College Details: County Executive Steve Schuh and Anne Arundel United will host a special event honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to include a screening of his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech and presentations by experts called “King’s Dream: Then and Now.”
      The event will take place on Tuesday, January 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Pascal Center for Performing Arts at Anne Arundel Community College. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with a welcome reception.
      Featured speakers will include Dr. Lester Brooks from Anne Arundel Community College, former Maryland Delegate and Baltimore Councilman Keiffer J. Mitchell Jr. and civil rights activist Carl Snowden.

      There will be a "Not My Child" event regarding substance misuse in our community on January 16, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Severna Park High School, 60 Robinson Road, Severna Park, 21146. Please come out and increase your awareness of this fatal epidemic - it affects all communities. 

      Are you concerned that your child might be experiencing with drugs or addicted to drugs? Do you want to be prepared to teach your younger children never to start using? Are you looking for help with treatment?

      "Not My Child" is a special presentation to remove the stigma of heroin addiction and get help for families caught in the web of drugs. This presentation will include a panel of experts, question and answer from the audience and treatment providers ready to provide information and referral.

    • Sawmill Workshop Time: 9:00a - 12:00p Location: Kinder Farm Park Details:

      Weather permitting, Kinder Farm Park's very own Sawmill Club will be running logs through the mill. Wood milled from the sawmill can be seen around Kinder Farm park, including inside the Tobacco Barn Museum and Visitor Center.

      Antique Equipment and Sawmill Club’s mission is the restoration and display of the park’s antique farm equipment, tractors and sawmill. Our goal is to offer presentations and displays of antique farm tools and equipment so that those participating can experience farm life in historical Anne Arundel County. The lumber from the sawmill is used in many of the small barns and other structures in the park.

      Each winter, five Ron Blake Award winners will be chosen from Volunteer Award nominations received throughout the year.  These individuals and groups will be chosen from the following categories: Recreation, Sports, Parks, Community and Youth.

      The Ron Blake award was initiated in 1985 to recognize the achievements and service of outstanding volunteers who have given their time and energy to advance and support the Department of Recreation and Parks. The award was named in honor of Mr. Ron Blake, a former member of the Recreation Advisory Board and community volunteer from Odenton.   Ron Blake was a noted and respected leader in the Odenton Community. As the first president and one of the founding members of the Gambrills-Odenton Recreation Council, he worked diligently and effectively to build and enhance the sports programs and recreational opportunities in his area. A member of the Kiwanis, the Odenton Improvement Association, and the first president of the Arundel High School Boosters Club, he coached both baseball and football and led successful movements to acquire land for GORC programs, and to provide high quality facilities. As a member of the County Recreation & Parks Advisory Board, he initiated the community grant program. His accomplishments and his legacy as one of Anne Arundel County’s foremost community leaders inspire our tribute to him. Ron Blake died in August 1984.

      Due to the significant increase in positive rabies cases experienced in Anne Arundel County, Animal Control is doing its part to help protect all Anne Arundel County pets from the deadly rabies virus. 

      Low cost rabies vaccinations are available every Thursday (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Control. For the period of July - September the rabies clinics will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. From October - June the clinic will be from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.

      Due to health and safety concerns for animals and humans alike, the Rabies Clinic will be canceled on any day that the anticipated heat index is above 100 degrees or if other inclement weather that could jeopardize the safety of pets and humans. 
      Be sure to bring a bowl and water for your animals to drink while you wait in line!
