      Annapolis, MD (April 19, 2017) – County Executive Steve Schuh, along with other County officials, will launch Anne Arundel County’s  innovative “Safe Stations” initiative to help combat the growing heroin and opioid crisis.
       

      Inspired by a program launched in Manchester, New Hampshire, Anne Arundel County residents who are suffering from addiction will be able to go any Anne Arundel County or Annapolis City Fire Station at any time of day or night to seek help from medical professionals.
       

      In close partnership with the Anne Arundel County Police and the Crisis Response Team, individuals seeking help will be assisted in obtaining the necessary detoxification resources or needed placement in an addiction treatment program. 
       

      Anne Arundel County's Safe Stations initiative will be the first program of its kind in the state of Maryland.

    • Opioid Awareness and Prevention Time: 10:00a - 12:00p Location: Arnold Activity Center - 44 Church Road Arnold, MD 21012 Details: Please join Maryland State Trooper J.C. Kelly as he presents the cold, hard facts of the opioid epidemic that has gripped the nation. Heroin related deaths in Maryland alone, tripled from 2011 to 2015. In light of the Governor's opioid overdose prevention program, learn more about gateway drugs, the abuse of prescription drugs and how addiction escalates to heroin usage. All families have the potential to get caught up in the web of addiction. This presentation is tailored to the senior citizen audience with the goal of equipping senior citizens to prevent death, illness, and addiction due to opioid overdose within their own scope of influence in the role of patriarch/matriarch of the family.

    • Microchip Clinic Time: 12:00p - 7:00p Location: 411 Maxwell Frye Road Millersville, MD 21108 Details: Extended Rabies and Microchip Clinic hours are today from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

      Monthly microchip clinics are held the 3rd Thursday of each month for the public in conjunction with the rabies clinic. Times for services for microchip clinic are the same as rabies clinic times on the 3rd Thursday. Citizens with proof of rabies vaccination for their pet will be able to take advantage of this low cost service for $20.00 for the implantation (additional fees for registration also apply).
       
       
    • Rabies Clinic Time: 12:00p - 3:00p Location: 411 Maxwell Frye Road Millersville, MD 21108 Details:

      Due to the significant increase in positive rabies cases experienced in Anne Arundel County, Animal Control is doing its part to help protect all Anne Arundel County pets from the deadly rabies virus. 
       

      Low cost rabies vaccinations are available every Thursday (except holidays) for a period of 3 hours at Anne Arundel County Animal Control. For the period of July - September the rabies clinics will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. From October - June the clinic will be from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The veterinarian leaves promptly at the end time for the clinic. Depending on the length of the line, Animal Control may conclude the line at an appropriate time to ensure all individuals remaining in line receive the services.
       

      Due to health and safety concerns for animals and humans alike, the Rabies Clinic will be canceled on any day that the anticipated heat index is above 100 degrees or if other inclement weather that could jeopardize the safety of pets and humans. 
         
      Be sure to bring a bowl and water for your animals to drink while you wait in line!

      The Not My Child: Heroin Addiction Presentation will held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Margarets Church/Day School, 1601 Pleasant Plains Road, Annapolis, MD 21409. Please come out and increase your awareness of this fatal epidemic - it affects all communities. 
       

      Are you concerned that your child might be experiencing with drugs or addicted to drugs? Do you want to be prepared to teach your younger children never to start using? Are you looking for help with treatment?
       

      "Not My Child" is a special presentation to remove the stigma of heroin addiction and get help for families caught in the web of drugs. This presentation will include a panel of experts, question and answer from the audience and treatment providers ready to provide information and referral.
