Preliminary Cause: Accidental

Additional Information: The home occupants were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms. They safely evacuated as neighbors called 911. First arriving firefighters reported a fire on the exterior back of the home that had extended into the attic space. Firefighters brought the fire under control in one hour.

Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit determined that the fire was accidental, with the exact location of origin still under investigation.

The occupants reported that the two family dogs survived, but their cat was still missing.
