Preliminary Cause: Accidental; unattended candle

Additional Information: The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms. They safely evacuated and called 911 followed quickly by additional 911 calls from neighbors. First arriving firefighters reported fire on the exterior back of the home. Firefighters extinguished a fire in a rear bedroom that extended to the exterior of the home. Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit determined that the fire was accidental in nature, resulting from an unattended candle. Two ferrets perished in the fire and the occupants reported two cats were missing.
