MAGLEV High Speed Train

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) are preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate the potential impacts of constructing and operating a high-speed superconducting magnetic levitation (SCMAGLEV) system between Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland with an intermediate stop at BWI Airport.

The EIS is being prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended, and other applicable regulations and procedures. The FRA awarded $27.8 million dollars in grant money for the study.
Maglev

Superconducting Maglev (SCMAGLEV) technology would mean the train could make the trip from
  • DC to Baltimore in 15 minutes
  • Travel speeds of up to 311 mph

Routes

Several routes are under consideration and some of them could possibly bring the project through Bowie.  Zoom in on the map below to see each of the proposed routes.
