Water Distribution System
The water supply system consists of 4 independent wells and 12 major water treatment plants which provide clean safe drinking water to 111,000 customers. The water treatment plants derive their supply from 55 production wells. The basic system is supplemented in the northern portion of the county by five connections to the City of Baltimore, from whom the County purchases water.
The water system capacity of 66.4 million gallons per day (MGD) is adequate to meet the average daily demand.
The wastewater system is divided into ten service areas. The Bureau operates Water Reclamation Facilities in nine (9) of those areas and has ten connections with three other jurisdictions (Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and Howard County).
The current capacity of the system is 47.6 MGD, which is adequate to meet the average daily demand.
