Elvaton Road Culvert Replacement/Road Closure

Project Background:

A double 24-inch culvert under Elvaton Road at Marley Creek was failing causing the roadway to sink. A temporary twin 24-inch culvert system was installed until the design of a permanent correction was completed in order to ensure the integrity and safety of the roadway.

Description of Project

Contractors will be replacing the existing temporary culvert system with a new Broken Back Box Culvert (5’2” x 12’7”) system that will reduce the frequent flooding at this location.  Concrete headwalls will be installed on either end of the system to enhance road stability as well as a stone lined plunge pool and riffle system to dissipate the energy of stormwater runoff.

Detour

Consultant analysis and past experiences indicate that the 5’2” x 12’7” Broken Back Box Culvert replacement requires all traffic lanes be closed ensuring work is performed in the safest manner possible. The roadway closure will help to maintain vehicular safety during construction and allow the contractor to conduct the work more rapidly as well as ensure everyone’s safety.

Detour Details: Vehicles will be detoured onto Obrecht Road and Brightview Drive coming from the East and Old Mill Blvd and Verterans Highway from the West which may add an additional 5-10 minute travel-time for some residents near the closure.
