Solley Road @ Chestnut Spring Lane Public Meeting
Page Background

Catherine Avenue Widening

Project Background:

This project will add one through lane in the northbound direction, between 231st Street and the existing right turn lane at MD 177 / Mountain Road. This will increase northbound capacity through this corridor. The project will also improve the existing sidewalks on the east side of this segment, making them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The County is pleased to announce that the construction contract has been awarded and we are ready to start work. The contractor will mobilize the week of May 21, 2018. One of the first activities will be to shift the centerline to the west, making the southbound lane more narrow, and to create a work zone along the northbound curb. This will be a significant change at first, but we anticipate there will be little work required outside of this work zone until much later in the project.

The project duration is anticipated to be 135 calendar days, with minimal work on weekends and at night. Impacts to traffic and adjacent residents will be minimized.

  • The project will reduce the queues approaching MD 177 / Mountain Road.
  • The project will also improve the lane utilization at the MD 100 off-ramp.
  • The project will provide ADA-compliant sidewalk between 231st Street and 228th Street.
