What is this project about?
 

This project involves a planning study that focuses on Ridge Road from MD 176 (Dorsey Road) to MD 758 (Corporate Center Drive)

The purpose of this study is to address concerns related future planned roadway construction and growth in the area.  Hanover Road is planned to be upgraded and extended to the east of Ridge Road as part of a project that will result in a grade-separated interchange at MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) and Hanover Road.  Increases in future employment in the area are likely to occur based on extensions of public utilities and proximity to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, which will result in the generation of additional traffic. 

The Maryland Aviation Administration has released property in this area, using funding from the Federal Aviation Administration, that would be available for right-of-way necessary to accommodate geometric improvements to the roadway.  Additional property will likely be needed to accommodate a design that improves roadway conditions over what currently exists.  The study is necessary to identify and justify the extent of property acquisition and land preservation in the vicinity, as the area near BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is rapidly changing.

The objective of this study is to identify the necessary roadway improvements to safely accommodate future travel demand and accommodate pedestrian and bicycle use, as there are currently no dedicated facilities for non-motorized road users along the majority of the corridor.  Additional right-of-way and stormwater management needs will also be identified.

Transportation Facilities Planning – MD 713 from MD 175 to MD 176

 

What is this project about?
 

This project involves a study that focuses on MD 713 (Rockenbach Road/Ridge Road/Arundel Mills Boulevard) from the Access Control Point of Fort George G. Meade, just south of MD 175 (Annapolis Road), to MD 176 (Dorsey Road).

The purpose of this study is to address concerns related to growth in development along and near the MD 713 corridor, which will result in increased travel demand for all modes of transportation, including vehicular, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit.  As MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) exhibits recurring congestion and parallels this corridor, it is expected that additional traffic will use MD 713 as an alternate north-south travel route to access points-of-interest in the area.  This corridor connects public facilities with neighborhoods and activity centers with residential development, and it is served by bus transit, prompting the need to identify safe pedestrian and bicyclist accommodation throughout the corridor.

The study identifies existing deficiencies along MD 713 and evaluates potential alternatives to address these deficiencies, improve traffic operations and safety, and improve compatibility for pedestrian and bicycle travel while minimizing impacts to the existing natural and built environment.

Transit Development Plan
  

Public engagement will play a major role in developing the Central Maryland TDP. We want to hear from those that already use transit in the region and from those that would consider using transit if improvements were made.

Opportunities for public input during the Central Maryland TDP process will include:

  • Public meetings in Anne Arundel County, Howard County, and Prince George’s County (open to all).
    • The first round of public meetings has been scheduled for October 2016 (see below under Public Meetings for details). We want to collect your input on unmet transit needs and service issues or gaps with existing transit services.
    • The second round of public meetings is planned for February 2017. We will present service alternatives for new transit services or service improvements. We want your input on which options make the most sense and which should be priorities over the next five years.
  • An online survey that is now available, just click on the link below. This brief survey will collect your input on the top transit needs in the region and suggested service improvements.
  •  
  • An interactive wikimap, which will allow you to draw and comment on a map where transit services are needed. A link will be provided to the wikimap once it is available.

In addition, the study team will be interviewing community stakeholders and reviewing recent plans, studies, and data to capture a full picture of transit needs and issues in Central Maryland. All this input and analysis will be used to develop service options to improve transit in the region.
