Annapolis, MD (May 17, 2019) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is pleased to recognize May as Older Americans Month (OAM) to provide resources for older adults to help them stay healthy and independent, and resources to help communities support and celebrate their contributions.
Every May, older adults across the nation are recognized for their contributions to their communities and society. While raising families and building careers, older adults continue to give back to their neighborhoods serve others in a variety of ways. As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and more, they offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community.
The 2019 theme is Connect, Create, Contribute, which encourages older adults and their communities to:
- Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
- Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
- Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
Communities that encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger. By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives.

The Department of Aging and Disabilities will celebrate OAM by promoting ways that community members of all ages can take part in helping Anne Arundel County thrive. We invite you to join us at:
- O'Malley Senior Activity Center on May 23, 2019, from 4pm to 7pm
- South County Senior Activity Center on May 30, 2019, from 4pm to 7pm
Each celebration will feature refreshments, entertainment, and numerous county and community partners with valuable information.
