YSA - History

History of YSA
The YSA dedicates itself to “providing intensive training for interagency and community stakeholders to develop a common language to facilitate conversations regarding the pressing community issue of youth suicide” (adapted from the Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Grant).

The impetus for this interagency collaborative effort began several years ago with the tragic loss of several local teens as a result of suicide. The untimely death of our young people touched the hearts of many community members and motivated them to come together to do everything possible to prevent future incidences of youth suicide. In 2009, the YSA was first convened by the Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth and Families in collaboration with the Core Service Agency (CSA) and Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) with a membership of approximately 12 agency and community representatives. In the three years since it's inception, the YSA has grown to over 75 members and continues it's commitment to educating our community, raising awareness, reducing stigma, and building the best possible safety net for every child and teen in Anne Arundel County.

The YSA meets the second Tuesday of each month (with the exception of July and August) from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and meetings are open to new members. If you are interested in attending a meeting, joining the group, or simply learning more about us and our work in Anne Arundel County, please contact our Chair, Alli Holstrom at srhols44@aacounty.org or 410-222-7423 x4.
