| August 12, 2008. County Executive John R. Leopold hosted a grand opening ceremony for the new safety turf field at North County High School in Glen Burnie. This celebration underscored the partnership between the Anne Arundel County School System and the County's Department of Recreation and Parks to extend recreational opportunities for its citizenry. The North County field is the first of 11 new safety turf fields to be completed at the public high schools in Anne Arundel County. Individuals on the field commemorating this occassion included: State and local officials; Superintendent of Schools and Board members; North County high school principal, athletic director, coaches and athletes; youth sports organization members; and multiple citizens celebrating the significant event. Following the ceremony, the Andover Apaches youth organization gallantly broke through the huge banner to become the first group to take the field for official football and cheerleading practices on the new North County High School safety turf field. |
